About Mark

I started my information design career as a public radio reporter.

The rigor of producing on a tight deadline was thrilling. I covered a lot of science stories and learned to translate complex details into plain language.

Around 2009, I was producing documentaries and thinking about ways to present them on the web. The Geek in me wanted them to be informative, but my inner Impatient User demanded they be easy to understand. I started designing website interfaces with human factors in mind, guided by my lifelong fascination with cognition and ergonomics.

Soon, I was building sites for NPR stations and tech startups, no small feat for someone entirely self-taught. I developed leadership skills and took on increasingly complex projects—supervising web content teams, designing and launching multiple sites, and overseeing CMS migrations. I also sharpened my skills in digital marketing and helped create launch content and social messaging for a bike rack, a culinary school, and a SaaS product.

Today, I have years of multi-channel experience and have been a valued contributor to successful projects for news organizations, the public sector, and commercial enterprise.
